Do you have an idea for a new metal hydride alloy formula but lack the ability to make the alloy? We can probably make the alloy you want in a 100 gram arc melt button formed in an argon atmosphere. There are some limitations on the kinds of materials we can melt. We cannot handle anything radioactive or highly toxic. Metals with high vapor pressures are difficult to arc melt unless they are dilute additives to lower vapor pressure metals.

Melting Services

We offer to make 100 gram arc melt buttons of 2 ingredients for $950 each. Please add $100 for each additional ingredient. For example, the price of a 4 ingredient formulation would be $950 + $200 = $1150.

If you want more than 100 grams of the same formula, please ask about quantity discounts.

Materials Prices

The price for melting iron or platinum is the same. The materials costs are not the same! You may opt to buy the metal ingredients and send them to us. If you want us to buy the ingredients for you, we will quote delivered materials cost for each ingredient plus 50% markup to cover our general administrative costs and profit. Unused ingredients will be returned with your arc melt button.

Heat Treatment

Some alloys do not solidify after arc melting in a homogeneous form. We can perform solution annealing of your arc melt buttons in sealed argon-filled containers wrapped in tantalum foil (to intercept trace oxygen diffusing through the walls of the container). The temperature limit of our furnace is 1200℃.

Our price for heat treatment is $350 plus $2 per hour of furnace time.For example, a 100-hour solution anneal will cost $350 + $200 = $550.If you want a special heat treatment involving more than 1 temperature and time specification, please ask for a quote.
